Nicki Minaj's Dancer Bitten By Snake During VMA Rehearsal

Fresh off the release of her eyebrow-raising video for Anaconda, Nicki Minaj has suffered a minor setback leading up to her upcoming MTV VMA performance this Sunday.

During a Friday afternoon rehearsal of the song, one of Minaj's background dancers was bitten by a six-foot-long Dumeril boa constrictor on stage.

Viacom’s director of production, Chris Velvin, explained that a snake handler was keeping a close eye on the performance and the woman’s wound was treated on site. Though the bit was non-venomous, the performer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment out of “an abundance of caution.”

“It is in no way life-threatening, but scary…We wanted her to start getting treatment as soon as possible,” Velvin added.

The snake, named Rocky, is a veteran animal performer with 15 years of experience and no previous history of violent attacks.

The bite occurred while the animal was draped on the female’s shoulders, and according to MTV, the singer quickly rushed to her dancer’s side to see if she was alright. “Did she get bit by the snake?” a concerned Minaj was overheard asking.

Sunday night’s performance of Anaconda will feature a different snake — “either another boa or python,” MTV confirms.
