VL recently caught up with the one of the raves of the moment DJ CUPPY and in an exclusive interview with VL talked about her life as a DJ, Producer, her house of cuppy mix and her future project
VL: Hello DJ Cuppy
DJ CUPPY: Hello VL! Thank you so much having me!

VL: We all know you as DJ Cuppy…what are your real names?
DJ CUPPY: Haha, my real name is Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola.

VL: How did you come up with the name Cuppy?
DJ CUPPY: Such an interesting question! I used to be called DJ Cupcake actually, back when I was 16. I mean, people used to call me Cups, Cupstar, Cuppito, etc… As time has progressed and I became more professionally involved in music I decided to drop the ‘DJ’ and the ‘cake’, and ended up at Cuppy!
VL: What inspired you to go into music and how did you get into the nigerian music industry?
DJ CUPPY: I’ve always had a love for music, but never would have thought it would end up as a possible career. No one could have told me I’d be sitting here speaking to you now. I’m so thrilled and feel extremely blessed! It’s a long way from when I was a child, playing the piano in my room. Nigeria is home and will always be, so it’s only natural to get involved in music here.

VL: Tell us about your life as a DJ & Producer
DJ CUPPY: Djing is something I love, but producing is actually my first love and was my first step into music. From a young age, I can remember being so creative and always looking for mediums to express myself. DJing, being a performance-based activity, allowed me to express themselves through music, and I’ve loved it ever since.

VL: So far so good you have done lovely stuffs. What’s the next step?
DJ CUPPY: Thank you! Well, the next step… World domination! Haha!

VL: What project are you currently working on?
DJ CUPPY: Well I’ve just launched my new mixtape, ‘House of Cuppy’ wihich I’m so so excited about! I’m also looking forward to lots of exciting gigs and projects I’m involved in… I’ll be moving to New York for my Masters so that’s a project of its own, haha!

VL: Tell us about your Star Studded “House of Cuppy” Compilation Mix
DJ CUPPY: Sure thing, ‘House of Cuppy’ is my new project, which I’ve been working on for about four months and I’m so excited about it! It’s a House mix compilation of Nigerian songs by amazing artistes including Tiwa Savage, Kcee, Naeto C, D’banj, Dr Sid, Alexandra Burke, Chidinma, Wizkid, illBliss and Suspect. The Dauphine of France Marie Antoinette, who I’ve always viewed as a fearless woman, inspired the whole project. ‘House Of Cuppy’ is definitely my most passionate project yet.

VL: Who is the international artist that you would love to collaborate with and why?
DJ CUPPY: Being a DJ, I think a collaboration with other international DJ’s such as David Guetta, Calvin Harris, or even Avici would be a dream come true!

VL: What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?
DJ CUPPY: I’m still on an experimental path, but whatever I settle for, in 5 years I hope to have made a difference, inspired others and changed the rules!

VL: What do you have to say to your fans, friends and family all over the world?
DJ CUPPY: Thank you so much for all your support. I will continue to give any project I’m involved in a 101%! This way, I’m able to constantly challenge and strengthen myself to make sure I make those around me proud. I will continue to chase my dreams no matter what!
